Robert V. Frye, a.k.a. "Captain Fly" is a native Washingtonian who has been a part of the music scene as a disc jockey and entertainer for over 35 years. Along with hosting "The Oldies House Party," heard worldwide and broadcasted weekly on 89.3 FM WPFW, he has toured internationally with artists such as James Ingram, Peabo Bryson, and many more. The Captain has been high profile on radio since 1990. In '95 he began driving the Saturday morning "train" on WPFW, DC'S Pacifica community radio station. Urging listeners to "get on board", Frye has helped rebuild a DC radio tradition as he pumps out memorable sounds. These soul hits of a bygone, simpler era, often by Jr Walker, James Brown, or Curtis Mayfield, punctuate the Captain's trademark call-ins from his loyal listeners as the train whistle blows.
Now Robert Frye has originated a golden formula to forever enshrine a more innocent time. Not only does he drive the WPFW train every Saturday (ably assisted by James Funk, a vocalist with Chuck Brown's group), Currently, he is the lead singer "The Intruders Review". The Intruders Review" is an exciting Vegas style show that brings that soul era to life with the sights and sounds that will never be forgotten. The last three seasons he has written, directed, and produced four stage musicals, "7th & T," "School Tickets," "Blue LIghts," and "Christmas 365," all presented at The Historic Lincoln Theatre in Washington, DC. Proceeds from his performances have supported community-based organizations such as Parklands Inc. and LINK Inc. who work hands-on with Washington youth through educational and life skill aftercare programs. Robert V. Frye is a retired Metropolitan Police Officer in D.C. who began his recording career in 1995 with 3 CDs completed to date. The latest CD, "Flyin'" features "Love Mellow," a song that has gained popularity worldwide. Robert is the Director of the Family Formation program for The Fishing School, a faith-based after school enrichment program that provides tutoring, computer training, meals, and life skills to inner city students at two facilities in D.C. Captain Fly's motto is "Save the Children." |
